| The NAP advantages & Frequently Asked Questions |
- Houston-NAP service is different than regular ISPs in that
our services are fully redundant to multiple carriers and to
our own peering fabrics.
- We are fully Ethernet and IP based avoiding conversion losses.
- Clients can order redundant Shadow Ports for additional reliability.
- We work closely with facilities like Cyrus One, in securing
the best possible Meet-Me-Room and Meet-Me-Cage facilities,
often with minimal cross connect fees. By partnering with Internet
America, our low cost transit can be securied via thier transport,
providing the lowest cost option for regional delivery.
- Both fiber and copper Ethernet connections are supported.
- We strive to keep as much traffic local as possible thus reducing
distance latency losses, this includes our own Akamai Server
farm caching about 15% of the net.
- We do not oversubscribe our bandwidth, by this we mean that
we always provision sufficient bandwidth to avoid load induced
latency. This is a major difference in that some providers oversubscribe
20 to 1. Hint: have them show you their load graphs, if they
peak at certain times you know they oversubscribe.
- Naturally we efficiently route and do take advantage of the
best mix of customers thereby matching eyeball networks with
hosting networks to contain costs.
- By focusing on Enterprise, Carrier and Hosting we keep customer
counts low thereby insuring high levels of personal attention.
- We also establish direct connections with our bandwidth partners
avoiding ILEC infrastructure and the cost and performance losses
normally found in ATM and OC based networks.
- Our layer 2 connections are all managed and monitored by us
so we know what to do when something goes wrong, and most of
them are protected insuring a alternate path if fiber is cut.
